Hot springs are considered rejuvenating in many cultures, from Asia to Europe. All that natural heat and the minerals from the earth flow through water and call throngs of people to come and enjoy the resorts that pop up around these wonders of the world. You, however, would never go to one. You're insecure about baring it all in public; maybe you don't even go out in public because your appearance would make the uncaring crowd lash out at you. Maybe it's just not your scene. You could not know anything about hot springs!

But you're at one now, no matter what, and you're going to be taking a skinny dip - or near it - whether you like it or not. To make matters worse, you're sharing your little pool with someone else. Hey, you don't know them! This place could not even be in your world or your time.

There's little options otherwise, though, so you might as well enjoy the time you're here. Soak and relax, let those tired muscles get a break. Soon, all your troubles, your worries, your ailments, your imperfections all begin to fade away...as do your misconceptions. You know this person, don't you? Yes, you do. Actually you know them very well. You're with them. You came with them, it seems to you, to reconnect, a lover's getaway. After all, what's more steamy than a hot springs?

So go ahead, do what you've intended to do. No one will mind if you get a little frisky in the springs if it helps out your relationship; besides, what do you think some of the extra natural minerals are for? They'll certainly help you get hot under the collar, not that you'll need that. Your (new) mutual history should be enough.

[Atsushi doesn't usually have the kind of money you'd blow on a place like this, so this magical nexus opportunity is not one to be wasted in his opinion! He's going to enjoy relaxing in the hot water to it's fullest, hopefully.]

[ Vanitas doesn't have the time to do any of these sort of things back home, so he definitely wouldn't willingly plop his ass into hotsprings.

At first, he loathed it with every single fiber of his being. He was exposed, and he had a multitude of scars on his body -- this one -- that he'd done so well to keep out of sight. It keeps people from asking stupid ass questions. Most of them were faded from past battles, or a training session that turned into a living nightmare for him.

But then again, scars seemed to be another thing he and Atsushi had in common. So maybe it wasn't entirely unpleasant if it was just Atsushi who saw. ]

[Scars certainly were something they had in common-- but there was enough steam and water that Atsushi felt more or less like he was soaking in some semblance of privacy here. The faded pale patches of tissue that dotted his skin here and there, the two reddened indents along his side... no one could see them as long as they didn't get too close.

That said, it was only some semblance of privacy. Atsushi had already been relaxing for awhile in the steaming water, letting tension and lingering soreness soak away as he did. He hadn't even been expecting company, really.

Luckily it's company he doesn't really find he minds. Vanitas at least he doesn't have to hide around.]

Vanitas? I wasn't expecting to see you here.

[And embarassment aside, it really was a pleasant surprise, when he examined it.]

I don't know if I'd call it 'fun' exactly, but.... it is really nice. I always heard places like this were good for sore muscles, but they weren't joking.

[ Well, if you've never seen the scars all over Gus' body, here they are in all their glory. Bask in that. Really take it in.

Also, his ear is with all his clothes, so try to stick to his left side when talking to him. ]

[ Vamitas says ever so casually, but as they're sitting here, his eyes flicker over unabashedly to size Atsushi up. It has been awhile since he's seen him topless, and some part of him appreciates the chance. Also, he supposed it did help that they weren't in a life or death game at the moment. ]

I've never heard about this kind of place before. But I imagine if you're not too careful you'll be Atsushi the prunny instead of Atsushi the armed detective guy.

I suppose so.

[Atsushi's smile grows into a small, amused grin. No, he definitely didn't mind Vanitas' company.

Atsushi tries to be polite and not look, but the feel of Vanitas' gaze on him eventually draws his eyes. The scars he'd expected, honestly, given what he knew of Vanitas' life. But something about his appearance right now still caught Atsushi's gaze, held it-- Maybe it was how much he'd grown over time?

Atsushi's face feels a little hotter when he finally laughs at Vanitas' joke, looking down at his hands as he cups water in them.]

I can always dry off again if I do. This isn't really an opportunity I get often, even if my world has places like this.

I'm guessing it's because of your work. Look at us, finally getting a chance to really relax for once in our damn lives.

[ Vanitas definitely smirked when the male's gaze had flickered over to him -- and more importantly his current state of mostly undress. He looks at the white-haired male, as he looks down, and honestly, if there's one thing that's changed about him, it's the fact that he's a bit more bolder with what he could say. Though, his want to tease Atsushi hasn't changed at all.

Proven exactly in the next moment as he speaks again. ]

Say...you were checking me out a little earlier, weren't you?

[His smile quirks a bit, amusement clear in his tone.]

That, and visiting places like this costs a bit. But you're right-- opportunities like this are hard to come by, aren't they?

[Atsushi was a somewhat thrifty person, and vacations like these not only required taking a day or two off but also money. Not that he felt a lack in any way for it, it wasn't like he felt he needed to visit places like this, though he certainly appreciated the chance for a breather from the hustle and bustle of the agency.

Vanitas' next words, however, cause further redness that has nothing to do with the heat of the bath to come to his cheeks, water sloshing out of his hands. He-- checking--]

What?! I wasn't-- I wouldn't-- I'm sorry!!!

[.....Atsushi that was basically admitting you were.]

Mhm, sure are.

[ Vanitas watches the way the redness encroaches on Atsushi's face and his smirk turns into a grin of sorts. To literally no one's surprise. Sometimes the other male just makes it too easy, and who is he to complain? ]

What've you got to be sorry about? It's alright, I don't mind too much.

[ ... And then he starts to laugh, because that's where we're heading at today. ]

[If possible, Atsushi turns even redder as Vanitas' smirk grows into a grin, and it turns out Atsushi is one of those unfortunate people who blushes all the way to his ears apparently. He couldn't really deny that Vanitas drew the eye right now, bu--]

[ It's honestly really cute.

Vanitas wasn't lying when he had told Atsushi a few times he was cute (though he flustered about a little and had pretended he said nothing instead when he got caught in it.) That being said, it took him a moment to realize the implications of his words, and Atsushi actually catching on (but of course he would, it's kind of obvious what he meant.)

His golden irises flicker over to the water, ducking his head a little. At least he doesn't look at his feet like a tool like how he did when he was younger. ]

... Yeah. I mean, obviously I'm attractive so why should I be ashamed of it?

[ His face colored a little as he made up something like a hasty excuse. ]

[Atsushi was frankly terrible when it came to receiving compliments. He reveled in praise, it was true, but that was because he was still unused to it.

Some of them were easy to accept. Others-- well.

And this was a whole other area Atsushi was unpracticed in dealing with.

At least Vanitas had some confidence in areas Atsushi didn't, and Atsushi sinks into the water a little, so red faced he's feeling a little dizzy.]

I wasn't trying to be rude and stare or anything.... Not that I'm disagreeing, because you're right....! You are, um--

[....And it's slowly clicking for Atsushi that yes, yes he was absolutely checking Vanitas out.

He feels a sudden, intense desire to just sink entirely into the water and disappear. It isn't like his head isn't boiling already.]

[ Vanitas' golden eyes swept back over to Atsushi at his flustered moment there -- and before he can stop the feeling and squash it down, he felt a sense of pride at the thought that Atsushi admitted it. Even if albeit in an aborted manner of sorts --

Some part of him disapproved immensely, however.

He had let Atsushi in so close, but ... if they became an item -- no, why the hell was he thinking of that? He's so stupid. He tries to get it out of his head because that's so damn embarrassing.

Then you know what? He got a grand idea. ]

You were about to agree with me, huh? I didn't know you could be so bold. Look, your face is so red too, let me help you out with that...

[ Right after his words, Vanitas then splashed water at Atsushi with a grin. ]

[Atsushi isn't even really thinking about 'if they became an item', too busy struggling with the attraction bit. It wasn't like he wasn't at least aware he found some men visibly attractive--Kashuu, Morrigan, though the latter with some degree of bewilderment--but Vanitas was a good friend. Someone he cared about a lot, and who cared about him.

That... was complicating.

So it's almost a relief when Vanitas half grants Atsushi's wish for the water to eat him alive, even if it ends with him sputtering and scowling in annoyance, chaotic thoughts forgotten for a moment as he sits up a bit, cupping his hands with a smile.]

[Aaaand the words are barely out before he's splashing a decent amount of water Vanitas' way with a grin of his own.

This is probably not proper onsen behavior, but Atsushi couldn't really care right now.]

[ Vanitas had been starting to realize he waa nursing a romantic crush on Atsushi when he was younger and so it's not like he was wholly oblivious to his feelings now. But, now he was in denial that he still had them -- he can't feel real love. Not the kind they show in movies -- he's a being of darkness, so part of him rejected the idea.

If he truly accepted he felt "love" for Atsushi like that, it'd become twisted. Maybe he'd just want him for himself, or he'd hurt Atsushi's feelings by saying or doing something terrible.

Luckily, though, he came up with a good enough distraction to keep the both of them occupied on something else. ]

Oh really now?

[ Some things hardly changed, honestly. Here they were splashing water at each like children. ]

Not bad splashing around. You know, if you were a baby.

[Some things hardly changed, indeed. Vanitas always seemed capable of distracting Atsushi when he needed it most, sweeping away awkward moments for both their comfort, and now was no different.

Maybe Atsushi wasn't sure about much on the side of romantic things, or attraction-- but he was sure that Vanitas was a good friend... a better friend than maybe even Vanitas thinks he is.

And also, a friend he was sorely tempted to dunk headfirst into the water, but details.]

Those are fighting words, you know.

[Another splash follows, rougher and much larger than the first, hot water spraying everywhere. At least Atsushi is polite enough not to transform his arms in the bath for extra strength and risk possible shedding.]

[ Vanitas sure as hell didn't realize how much he's helped Atsushi -- let alone anyone. He's used to being terrible at all and not even trying, so the idea that he could was still a novelty.

The water splashes on his face and then in a blur of movement he's suddenly behind Atsushi, trying to shove his fingers up the other male's armpits in a daring tickle attack. ]

Can you fight this?

[The blur both is and isn't a surprise-- is, because he wasn't expecting it in the bath, isn't because it's Vanitas, of course he would.

Atsushi tries to follow it and turn, but he fails, letting out a yelp of surprise before squirming with a laugh, making a valiant attempt to arch away from the fingers.]

H-hey...! Cheater!

[He doesn't even have the protection of clothes this time, rude!!!]

What're you gonna do about it, huh?

[ Vanitas' fingers seem to almost shift from the white-haired's armpits to around him (how would it feel with them like this) before he mentally kicks himself so he doesn't quite make it to that point. Instead he continues his merciless attack without any further awkward incidents, to his relief. ]

Hard to have a plan of attack when you're too busy laughing yourself to near death.

[ Not that he should be talking since he's chuckling a little himself, despite not even being tickled. ]

[Atsushi continues to squirm, the water making it both harder and easier to slip from Vanitas' grasp, the laughter further complicating things.

It takes him a few breathless moments, but Vanitas stopping himself from wrapping his arms around him means he finally gets some room in which to slither around in his grasp enough to reach out and run a hand up his side, fingers launching a counterattack.]

You underestimate me!

[If he can, he'll be squirming around enough to try to face Vanitas properly.]

[ At first the touch makes him freeze -- no one's even put his hands on him when he was in a state of undress -- but then he's kind of, laughing a little. His body is rather sensitive to any touch on bare skin, so he's. Pretty damn ticklish unfortunately and this causes some manner of flailing around on his part, and probably enough for him to lose balance because he tried to stand to his feet to pull away --

So, Atsushi how do you feel about Vanitas' sudden clumsiness and falling into you. ]

[Atsushi wasn't quite expecting him to freeze, but he pushes his advantage from there nonetheless, fingers aiming for vanitas' armpits with a growing playful grin. How the tables have turns! How the mighty have f--

....Fallen. Literally. Atsushi lets out a yelp as Vanitas falls into him, unable to get any traction on the tub below, feet skidding as he falls backwards under Vanitas' weight.

Looks like the both of them are going to just splash straight back into the water, joy.]
