The Night In Jail Meme

No matter how careful you are, no matter how good you try to be--well, sometimes things just happen. Maybe you need to fudge a few little rules for the greater good, or maybe you're a full-time villain with no regrets. Either way, everyone has to slip up sometime--and this time, there just so happened to be law enforcement involved to catch you as you fell. What happened to get you into this fiasco, and how will you cope?

Warning: This meme deals with criminal activity and confinement, and has the potential to get into explicit detail. Please be aware of any triggers you may have concerning subjects like these, and make sure to state any preferences you may have.

How to play:
1. Respond to this post with your characters--be sure to put their name and canon in the subject line, and include any preferences you may have.
2. Feel free to set up the scene yourself, or leave it to those who respond to you.
3. Click here to select a crime, and here to select a scene, or go to the RNG site and roll your own numbers.
4. Start playing! AUs and canon-blending alike are highly encouraged, as is characters who actually are cops or lawyers tagging around and getting to strut their stuff.

Crime

1. I fought The Law, and The Law won: You really don't mess around, do you? You're running right up against the law and government in its purest form. Did you try to resist arrest? Flee probation? Conspire to commit treason against the government? Maybe you didn't even do anything wrong, and you're being unlawfully held with no warrant, no conviction, and no hope of a fair trial. However it happened, it looks like you're in dire straits.

2. Civil disobedience: Fight the Man! You represent the will of the people! You're a political prisoner, and you regret nothing, even if the authorities are abusing their power and position. Whether you were organizing a peaceful protest, or engaging in a little ideologically-motivated terrorism, you're out to prove a point and ensure that justice will be served in the end.

3. No entry: You really shouldn't have gone in there, should you? Whether it was simple tresspassing, forcible breaking and entering, outright burglary, or just sneaking into an abandoned building, you've been caught somewhere you have no right to be.

4. Up with your sticky hands, this is a fuck-up!: So, what caught your eye? Some smug fat cat who needs to learn the meaning of charity? A bank or jewelry store that didn't seem to have surveillance? Vital medical equipment you just couldn't afford? Whether it was armed robbery or a more hands-off theft, you've taken what doesn't belong to you.

5. Let's take this outside: That was one hell of a fight! Who won? Hopefully you gave as good as you got. And hopefully the other guy is doing just as much time as you are. Assault, public brawling, illegal use of firearms, or even self-defense gone wrong--as long as it's violent, you're going to have a hard time explaining yourself to the police that pulled you out and patched you up.

6. Hit list: Sometimes, just roughing someone up isn't enough. Sometimes, a more permanent solution is needed. Cold-blooded murder plots, a struggle gone too far in the heat of the moment, or perhaps just a terrible accident on the highway--however it happened, you've ended another person's life.

7. Superheroics don't pay: Not your average criminal, are you? No, you're the sort who should really be dealt with by special forces, not your work-a-day beat officers. Maybe you're a diabolical supervillain whose scheme got foiled, (again) or you shouldn't be here at all--you were the guy in the cape trying to save the city! The citizens, however, don't seem to appreciate the fact that your heroic defense included large explosions, vast collateral damage, or dozens of innocent lives being held in the balance to bait you into coming to fight your archnemesis. Maybe you and your cellmate were the two super-powers slugging it out, or maybe you're master and sidekick, but one thing is for sure--no normal jail cell can hold you. Unluckily for you, it seems this prison was well-prepared.

8. Organized crime: So, are you the criminal mastermind orchestrating illicit operations all over the city? Are you a much-abused mook who just happens to work for this sadistic madman for a living? Maybe you're a mercenary hitman, or just a kneecap-breaker and debt collector. Whatever your position, you're not one to operate in a vacuum, and it looks like you've made one wrong step too many. Hopefully your colleagues will get you out safely--if you don't sell them out first.

9. White collar crime: A bit too sophisticated for dirtying your hands, are you? You know your way around the business world, and you know how to make it give you exactly what you want. Money laundering, embezzlement, corporate espionage..... so long as it involves a respectable workplace, there's a good chance you've got a hand in it. Did your boss finally find you out?

10. Indecent exposure: .....Wow. Uh. W-would you like a coat? Maybe you decided to streak for some reason, maybe you decided to skinny dip in a public fountain, maybe you couldn't find any covering for your walk of shame, or maybe you and your lover got caught in an intimate position in public, but whatever happened, you've bared it all to the wrong eyes.

11. Bad trip: You smoked what? And they found you where? Whether you were selling, using, or simply in possession of them, you've been caught with some illegal drugs. Drunk driving, sharing a joint with some friends, or maybe doing some of the harder stuff--you'll have a while behind bars to come crashing down and face the music.

12. Goddamned kids!: It isn't like this crime had a victim! Really. All you did was throw bricks through a few windows, or set fire to an abandoned warehouse, or spray paint graffiti onto public property, or maybe egg and toilet paper some loser's house. Whether you were vandalizing things, disturbing the peace, or just up to miscellaneous criminal mischief, you must have had bad luck to get caught by an officer having a lousy day.

13. Drunken shenanigans: Well, it looks like somebody had a wild night! You might be high-fiving your partner in crime and reveling in just how awesome that stunt you pulled was, you may be terribly hung over and regretting every second of your escapades, or you might not even remember what in the world you did to get locked up to begin with. Here's hoping it was at least fun enough to be worth the trouble you've gotten yourself into.

14: This isn't what it looks like! You've got the wrong guy!: Wow, it must really suck to be you. Either you were an accomplice who was thrown under the bus to take the punishment for everyone else, you were framed for a crime you didn't commit, there's a serious case of mistaken identity going on, or you were just some innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. Hopefully you can convince them of your innocence before it's too late.

15. Sweating the small stuff: Who shoved a stick up that officer's ass? Seriously, who gets arrested for littering? Or jaywalking? Or smoking at a bus stop? This is beyond ridiculous. Maybe if you can talk to some other, hopefully sane officer, you can get this whole mess straightened out.

16. You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant: Got the perfect crime in mind? Don't see your offense listed above? Mix n' match, choose which you want, or create your own!

Scene

1. Caught red handed: Oh, now you've done it. The sack of money is still in your hand, or the body is still in your trunk, or maybe you reek so badly of alcohol they sniffed you out from a block away. What'll you do, now that there's no denying what you've done?

2. On the run: Whether it's a high-speed car chase, trying to climb a chain link fence, or a grueling crawl through the sewer system, you're trying to evade justice. Hope you're good at thinking on your feet!

3. Busted: No getting out of it this time. You're getting a very thorough patdown, being handcuffed, and stuffed into the back of the patrol car. The arrest is in progress, and there's nothing you can do about it.

4. Police interrogation: Down in the station, this is your one chance to persuade them of your innocence--or have them crack your resolve and make you spill everything you know. Are they playing good cop and bad cop with you? Using illegal torture methods? Does anyone even know you're here, or are these a different sort of police entirely?

5. Guard and prisoner: The arrest and crime alike are definitely past you now. Now you've got to deal with the people holding your life in your hands for the long haul. Maybe if you're lucky, or persuasive, or just have something to bribe them with, they'll be inclined to make your life a little easier.

6. I want a lawyer!: Even a prisoner has rights, after all. You've been allowed some legal counsel, so you'd better make the best of it. Just how sympathetic are they? Do you trust them to do you any good? Or are they just one more of law enforcement's dogs?

7. Cellmates: It looks like you two are going to be roommates for a long, long time, whether you know each other or not--better make yourselves comfortable and get acquainted. Who knows some party games?

8. Your one phone call: You're in it up to your ears, now. Who will you turn to, with only one chance to contact the outside world? Will they come in to bail you out, or let you suffer the consequences of your actions?

9. Visiting hours: Awww, someone came to keep you company? How sweet! Hopefully they didn't come just to laugh at your misfortune.

10. The Great Escape: Maybe you and your cellmate are plotting to break out, or maybe a friend on the outside has come to rescue you--either way, you're busting out of this joint. Freedom!

11. Who was that masked man, anyway?: Got an idea for a scenario or relationship you can't see on here? Go wild!

((Let's face it, it's really a miracle this hasn't happened more often.))

[ It's likely to be always jarring from the switching of sudden day to pitch black due to being blindfolded and brought to jail. But at the same time, most veterans of the game had been used to the experience by now.

Abel figured that Fayt was one of those who would. It still excited him whenever he had a chance to bring him in, though.

A smile that was more closer to a smirk was upon his lips at seeing the blue-haired man at his mercy. ]

Tell me your role. Now. Unless you have some sort of confession to make.

Straight to the point, huh?

[He is used to it, after so long playing this 'game'. Still, Albel being on the other end of the interrogation was a new one.

Not that Fayt planned to make this easy. He never did, in this place. He's blindfolded and bound, but that didn't mean he'd act helpless.]

And exactly what kind of confession are you looking for, Albel?

[ Albel never got Jailer too often, as long as he had been playing this game. This is honestly the second time he's managed -- maybe the game knows better to give him a role in which he'd be ruthless towards other people in. Without abandon.

Well, except if you were Fayt. Ostensibly.

That said, he liked the idea of a challenge. That would never change; it wouldn't be much fun if the other male folded so easy.

The man allows the first rhetorical question to go unanswered as he draws silently and swiftly closer to the other man. He leaned in closer so the other could tell he spoke in closer proximity to him -- specifically near his ear. ]

What do you think, fool? I'll give you a hint:

It's the kind that would bring a quick and painless end to the night and your life.

[ Somehow, even though these words seem to have been uttered threateningly, it's no doubt that Fayt would be able to detect more than a hint of teasing in his tone. As he's wont to do with the other -- partly because of their history and another knowing the 'death' would be temporary anyway. ]

[Oh, Fayt absolutely can. Honestly, though Fayt would never admit it, there were some aspects of these games that he enjoyed a little too much. Namely the thrill of pitting himself against others with such 'high' stakes.

So now that he's here, alone with Albel and with that 'threat' on the table.... pushing his luck was of course precisely what he was going to do.

He turns his head slightly, facing the source of the words spoken near his ear, leaning closer as much as his restraints will allow before speaking, his own words teasing.]

Now where would the fun be in that? Unless I've been out awhile, it isn't that late yet. We've got the time to make this interesting, I think.

[Why is there a cat napping in the jail cell? Or maybe they actually have proper security fit for vampires.]

[The heck happened? who knows.]

[Well, this sure is happening. Maybe they got caught on a mission somewhere...?]

[ See? This is why Fayt understood him best. He wasn't the only one who took a thrill from being put into such situations. Naturally, he likes the response -- though he plays along as if he doesn't. ]

Hmph. Are you sure you would like to push your luck?

[ The man reaches out with his clawed hand, careful at first not to draw blood or cause injury as he brings it to lightly have contact against the front of Fayt's shirt. ]

Then again, I suppose it wouldn't be much of a challenge if it ended too easily. [ He sounds a little too pleased saying that. ] But don't expect to leave the jail unscathed, if you even manage at all.

[Better have your power dampening stuff ready.]

[Don't have her cuffed and/or blindfolded if you don't want her to throw inappropriate comments your way. Even as a prisoner, she pushes it.]

[Fayt's expression is obscured by the blindfold, but the amused quirk of his lips is enough to paint a decent picture of it. He doesn't pull away from the contact of Albel's clawed hand, even leans forward just a little, a taunt-- or maybe a dare.]

I hope you aren't thinking of taking the easy way out.

[Let's be real, actually surviving canon means they're either a fugitive or the fuzz are just waiting to nail the legendary villain on whatever they can.]

[ Hope you don't mind a bit of your shirt tearing from that then, Fayt because he doesn't draw it away. ]

You know me. Taking the easy way out would be only for cowardly fools.

I'll take my sweet time. Maybe even make you scream.

[ He'll draw one of the pointed tips down his shirt, not caring about it being light enough not to tear, with the blue haired man so close, and then up to under his chin. ]

[ Well, one second they were on a mission and then surrounded by the police from the era they were in. There were too many to fight off without causing too much of a scene and Mikazuki had gladly given himself up, laughing a little all the way.

And so here they are. ]

Ah, it's been quite the exciting day, hm?

[ Where there is light, there will be darkness -- or so it is said. Night falls swiftly as it arrives, but for Tori there's a special meeting reserved for her.

Vanitas doesn't feel the need to blindford nor cuff her. All he needs to do is use a portal of darkness and she's in his jail. Thanks game.

Right now he's leaning against a wall, nearby a table of assorted jailer items. Keys, blindfolds, chains, cuffs, and things that are more suited for interrogation or what not. ]

Guess who?

[ He has a particular reason for bringing her in. He remembers his offer, after all. ]

That's one way to put it— Why are you so calm about this too? [He doesn't remember anything about the police of this era, not enough to actually help them in any case...

...Kashuu tugs on his hair.]

Who do you think they're really looking for? ...or did we just cause that much of a racket. [Breaking out of jail immediately would Definitely not do them any favors.]

Why not?

[ He laughed a little at Kashuu's inquiry. The laid back nature of an old man such as he is surely to have been one for the ages. ]

Maybe someone as oddly dressed as us, or some kind of outlaw, hm? We weren't making that much of a noise if I remember correctly...

[ There were a few people running amok here or there, as always. Naturally less of a concern if it were the Heian era, but sadly this is not the case. Welcome to the late Sengoku. ]

We can't leave until we get out... [Well, they could. But that would make it harder for the next time they came back, so they can't.

He remembers what everyone on the street was wearing old man.]

I knew we should have done something about what I'm wearing... [Nothing like getting caught in clothes that look nothing like what anyone else is wearing next to the guy who looks like a noble.]

Think we can catch the actual guy, or someone they actually want, while they aren't looking? [...how exactly is that better than just vanishing. ]

[Tori has been in jail more times than she can remember over the course of the years she's spent in Murder Village, but being brought in the way she is this time -- without a blindfold or cuffs, even -- is certainly new. It's enough to confuse her for a moment.]

I guess some things can still surprise me. [She mostly says this to herself, but is quick to acknowledge her jailer once he speaks up.] Aww, are you really asking that of me? You know I meet so many people here! I can't possibly keep up with them all...!

[Nothing stops her sass. Nothing.]

Hmm...

[ He pauses at the first statement. Maybe he could do something funny and pretend to be a noble. That could be very entertaining!

But in reality, Mikazuki pushes away the silly idea to focus on the question. ]

We could, but it might cause some trouble, depending. Are you really up to us doing something like that?

[ He's smiling though, like he thinks he'd want to give it a try. It could be interesting. ]

[ There's an actual small laugh from him at that. He doesn't mind her sass -- anyone else though wouldn't get away with it without him being an ass. ]

You're not getting that old, are you?

[ He's smirking. ]

Anyway, I didn't bring you in here just to exchange roles. That's going to be more secondary this time. Lucky you, huh?

[He's almost, almost a little annoyed about the shirt-- He'd have to replace it, since sewing wasn't exactly his forte, and that sucked. But his breath hitches from the closeness of the sharp edges, and there's something bizarrely entrancing about not having the sight to see what Albel's doing.

When Albel tucks a claw under his chin, he swallows lightly, licking his lips.]

Oh....? I'm not sure if that's a promise or a threat.

[ Albel's eyes narrow slightly at the image of the bound and blinded man in front of him. Once again he concludes it's a good look for the other male, and he feels an urge to do something about it. Something that wasn't exactly tearing him to shreds, of course -- call it a want he's been dimly wishing to act on for quite some time now. ]

Why can't it be both?

[ When Albel speaks this time, his voice is low, containing traces of interest speaking to an intimate nature. He leans forward, shifting his claw away from the male's chin so he can plant his lips firmly on the other's. All rational thought has gone out the window. ]

[Did he just accidentally give Mikazuki an idea for another time...

Kashuu tilts his head, smiling too.] I mean, it's better than just staying in here, right?

[Managing to get out without completely wrecking the place would take some effort though. Sneaking out to catch an actual human criminal...when they were caught... Why is this the kind of thing that ends up happening sometimes on missions when they're seen?]

[ She's never done anything wrong in her entire life. ]

[ why would you jail the prince of pain (and awkward turtling)!? ]

[ "Besides, he's no doubt huddled up, crying and lonely in the corner of his cell right now. It's worth rescuing him just to see that." ]

That it is. Now, let us get to work.

[ Luckily there was a guard standing at post -- too far to hear what they were saying unless they were shouting and so he called him over. The guard obediently came closer, and then Mikazuki began to conjure up an excuse. ]

Ah, yes, I have a message to give to you. But I need you to lean a little closer for me to manage to tell you. You see, it's awfully important, and it'd be unfortunate if people were to overhear, given my status.

[ The man nodded and leaned over. It happened in an instant -- Mikazuki had slipped one hand out and in a diagonal movement with said hand, made it connect upon a pressure point on the other male's neck, knocking him clean out. He landed right onto the bars too, and Mikazuki reached into his pocket and extracted the keys before the man slipped off of the bars and met the ground.

Then the older male proceeded to unlock the door. ]

There we go. Not much commotion for now, hm?

[...this old man.

He sighs and leans against the wall while Mikazuki knocks out the guard.]

Not much commotion for now, but that still doesn't solve how we're gonna find someone they actually should have in here without drawing attention again.

Unless we're hiding again, I mean.

[Hopefully that guard doesn't wake up all that soon....]

We're going to need to find me different clothes, I guess.

[And then to keep up the fake-truth of Mikazuki being a noble, pretend to be his guard, probably.

Who knows? [She snorts.] It's not like I ever gave you a specific number.

[Though considering immortality and her age halting, she does take a moment to wonder how that would effect her memory in the long run -- a moment that passes when he announces that he hasn't brought her here for mere role exchanging, leaving her to raise an eyebrow.]

That so? Well, I guess my being lucky depends on that more pressing reason, doesn't it?

I'd say there's a good enough reason to actually consider yourself lucky.

[ Now Vanitas honestly wonders how old she is, but that's not the important thing at hand here.

He raises his hand, holding it stretched out to her as he continues to smirk at her. ]

I wanted to talk to you again about my offer. You've been thinking pretty hard on it, haven't you? Even if you haven't, you have to know that another won't come like this again...and the only reason I bothered is that we're similar.

In different ways, and not too alike. But similar enough that I'd even want to try helping you. Not many deserve to have my helping hand, after all. Of course, there's also the fact that no one else would understand even if I tried -- but you would.

There's just so much that could be done with this type of power.

[ Even if others would tremble at it in fear. Even if others would denounce it, stating that it would only lead to disaster...which, of course it would. But this power, the X - Blade, it was a part of him now and he a part of it. So as far as he believed, no one knew better than him... or so he believed. ]

[She takes a few steps closer to him, glancing down at the hand he holds out to her for a moment before looking back up at him.]

I have been thinking pretty hard on it, yeah. [And despite this being truth, being told that another offer won't come is enough to make raise her desperation, a small voice within her screaming at her to accept it already.]

Ha. You sure that's the only reason? [She lets out a brief laugh before shaking her head and getting back to business.] I would understand. I do understand. That kind of power...

[She takes another couple of steps forward.]

There really is a lot that can be done with it, isn't there? I could really protect the people I love with it, couldn't I? Sure, I can protect them in some ways. If they die, I can even bring them back if I'm fast enough... but there are too many factors that make my ability to keep them safe imperfect. With that power...

[Could she really ensure that no one ever leaves her again with it?]

[ Vanitas' smirk easily morphs into a grin when she takes a few steps towards him and for a moment he feels a sense of twisted triumph. He didn't need use the same methods Xehanort did to be successful enough to win someone over or succeed in his goals. Not that they were any better in this case, but he already considered it a point against the old man.

... And that feeling of triumph continues as she dares to inch closer.

It must be true -- that the X-Blade was the only thing that could end suffering. It was the only truth (lie) he'd believe Xehanort had spoken. ]

...You could do anything. No more being afraid of losing your loved ones, no more fears of being so powerless, or being too late and unable to do the "right thing" to help those you've ever loved. All you would need to do is just take this opportunity and grasp it within your own hands.

Your enemies would practically tremble at the amount of strength you have. And if you wanted, you could even make them wish they had never been born!

[Vanitas' words are just the sort that are needed to lure Tori in. She's never been able to learn how to accept that sometimes she'll have to lose people, that it's just life. Even her immortality, which means that she'll watch most of her loved ones die before her eventually, isn't enough for her to accept such an inevitability.

She remembers the last time she saw her sisters and her friends from her home world, and how she has to constantly worry about whether or not they're all still alive -- seeing Alade and having him tell them they were still alive for the moment only did so much for her fears. She remembers the scare with the Riddler -- even if he had ended up being alive after all, it's enough to make her sick to recall. She remembers the first Mithos she fell in love with, one she hasn't seen in years. One she knows is dead back home, and as a result she'll likely never see again. She remembers the last time she saw Dycedarg, how painful it had been -- and how it had been all her fault -- and how she eventually realized that he may be dead as well, only throwing more guilt upon her in the realization's wake. And she knows that if she hadn't been there when the Phantom was shot down, that she likely would have lost him for good too.

She thinks about Jeb, how he's so easily manipulated and used, how she'd do anything to keep him safe and by her side always. She thinks about Ris, who has gone through so much already, and how much she wants to prevent more from happening. She thinks about Casper, how he's always worn down and broken, constantly losing hope over his own situation, and how she wants to change that. She thinks about Lysandre, and how she's constantly worried about losing him. She thinks about Abigail and Faith, and how she owes it to them as their adopted mother to protect them, no matter how old they are. She thinks about everyone who would be hurt if her powers finally went out of control and consumed her, and how wonderful it would be to be the master of them -- the way Dycedarg promised to help her be, before she had ruined everything.

She considers her daughter's future, how she desperately wants Raven to have a better life than she's had.

Tori takes all of this into consideration, coming to a firm conclusion: she's done being powerless, despite the amount of power she has already. She's tired of not having control.

Her answer doesn't come verbally. Instead, she gives Vanitas a look of determination, and reaches for his hand.]

[ At first, he's a little worried. He doesn't know if Tori would actually bother to accept -- and when she does, he feels more than a sense of triumph. He feels victorious. Then again, it made sense.

Power was absolute.

Vanitas' hand snatches her on right up, and his fingers close tightly around her own, an unreadable expression upon his face at first. ]

Hahahahahaha! You made the right choice, Tori. Trust me, you won't ever regret this.

[ The black-haired boy's grip tightens, and with his free hand he summons the X-Blade to it, raising the weapon high above the both of them. Light and darkness begins to surround both of them -- of course in a jail cell no one is privy to any of what's going on. At least for now, and indeed the energy encircling them is powerful -- and that remains true of that which begins to seep in as well as strengthen.

However, the union with Ventus was incomplete -- and what he has now is an incomplete X-Blade. Like this, something so invincible is unbalanced, filled with more darkness than light, and of course that means things start to get a little less of a light show as the light begins to become tainted with more of that black energy. ]
